Two weeks into the training program I have gotten to know my physique and its limitations better. So far I have done about 280kms on both my road bike and my old mtb, mostly easy runs with some climbing along the way. I have mapped out interesting loops starting from Basel, mostly following the south leading valleys up in the jura, and frequently find myself cruising through charming little Swiss villages peppering the pre-Jura hillcountry. To help me develop a goal-oriented training routine I have invested in a Silver Training Plan from the training specialists at 2peak. I am still getting to grips with all the logging items, fitness tests, and HR calculations, but I try to stay loyal to the training it commands of me. As I am also doing a half-marathon in May so I must get in some running time as well and so I upgraded the Silver plan with the multisport option. To satisfy the gadget geek in me I have also gotten a Garmin Forerunner 305 to log both my running and biking efforts. I did some research to find the one that fits my project the best and there are big names offering some pretty good options, but as you can expect, price and performance varies quite alot. The most important thing dictating my decision was to get something that interfaces and supports my online training plan to get the most out of it. After my interval training last Monday I felt quite queasy and Tuesday morning my body was completely drained of energy and feeling feverish. I had to throttle back on the scheduled training for a few days. My son just started Kindergarten and being exposed to all his freshly imported bacterias could be a reason for my health crash but I guess that can expected on a regular basis in the time ahead. So today I did an easy little ride up to the prominent TV-antenna on top of the St. Chrischona hill to get a feel for my form and familiarize myself with the 305. I am very pleased with my newest acquisition.
