Seat stays

The seat stays connect the top of the seat tube (often at or near the same point as the top tube) to the rear fork dropouts. A traditional frame uses a simple set of paralleled tubes connected by a bridge above the rear wheel. When the rear derailleur cable is routed partially along the top tube, it is also usually routed along the seat stay.

Seat stays play an important role in determining a bike’s handling. They can, for example, be adapted to achieve maximum rigidity, comfort or localised rigidity (for example at disc brake mounts). Furthermore, straight, thick and low seat stays achieve greater rear end rigidity. Or you opt for a smaller diameter and install inwards-bent seat stays, thus increasing rear end comfort and traction. A monostay rear end can increase rigidity when using disc brakes. In this case you can either opt for an IS2000 or postmount option, either installed on the seat or chain stay. Please contact us with any questions you might have.
